Introduction

Rounding is a fundamental concept in mathematics that helps simplify numbers, making them easier to work with. When we round a number, we replace it with another number that is close in value but has fewer digits. This is useful in everyday life when estimating or when exact values are unnecessary.

Rounding can be done to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, or any decimal place. The rules for rounding are based on the digit that comes immediately after the place value we are rounding to.

Key Concepts in Rounding

1. Rounding to the nearest ten:

• Look at the units digit (ones place).
• If it’s 5 or more, round up.
• If it’s 4 or less, round down.
