So, in the fraction $$\frac{3}{5}$$:

• The numerator (3) tells us we have 3 parts.
• The denominator (5) tells us the whole is divided into 5 parts.

1. The numerator counts the parts you have.
2. The denominator counts the total equal parts the whole is divided into.
3. If the numerator is larger than the denominator, it means you have more than one whole (like $$\frac{5}{4}$$ means you have one whole and 1 extra part).
